Camp week 3, 2015

Kipeta

We have just returned home from our last week of camp. We are praising God for wonderful ways in which He was at work.

We had 64 campers and 11 of them accepted Christ. We also made an impact on the village of Kipeta. One young boy about 11 years old saw a group of campers sitting under the mango tree in his back yard and went to have a closer look. He hung around as the pastor shared the Gospel with the campers under that tree. When the pastor asked anyone who wanted to accept Christ to raise their hand, not only did three campers raise their hands but that little boy did as well. So the rest of the campers were sent back to out gathering point and the pastor stayed behind to lead 3 campers and one little boy to the Lord!

This picture shows a group of campers who accepted Christ during one of the later classes during the week.

There was also a women living in the village and in the evening she could hear the singing and laughing and asked her husband if she could go to the service which was outside the church. He refused. The next day she pulled one of the elders of our church aside and told him.  He encouraged her to try again that evening to talk to her husband so that she might attend the service. He promised that if her husband refused to give her permission then he and some other church leaders would come to her home and share the Gospel with her. Again her husband refused. So the next evening this elder and the local pastor and one of the pastors on our staff went to talk with the couple. They were able to lead her to the Lord in her home that night.

And then on Thursday these same elders and pastors went to home just outside the village of an Msukuma man. (This tribe is more animistic and traditional than other tribes in the area and they are not as easily persuaded to believe.)  I never heard what prompted them to visit this family, but to everyone’s amazement the husband, wife, and mother-in-law all accepted Christ that evening!  God works in wonderful ways!

And we visited the Momba River. It is the biggest river in this area.  It is the main source of water for this village, including drinking, bathing, washing, watering cattle, fish, etc… Often there are crocodiles in the river in the deeper parts.

We have enjoyed watching the Maji Star – when the planets came together as they have not done since 2-3 BC!  During the past 3 weeks of camp we were able to see them draw closer and closer together and then pass each other up!  We also enjoyed a lot of sunsets and parts of God’s creation.
