Worship Seminar 2012

1 …clap your hand, all you peoples; shout to God with the voice of triumph.
2 For the LORD Most High is awesome, a great king over all the earth.
3 He shall humble the peoples under us, and nations under our feet.
4 He shall choose our inheritance for us, the majesty of Jacob whom He loved. Selah.
5 God has gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
6 Sing praise to God, sing praise; sing praise to our King, sing praise.
7 For God is King of all the earth; sing praises with understanding.
8 God reigns over the nations, God sits on the throne of His holiness.
9 The rulers of the peoples are gathered together, the people of the God of Abraham; for the shields of the earth are God's; He is lifted up on high.   Psalm 47

We have just finished our 3rd worship seminar.  We had 16 students attending who were mostly return students.  This meant that we were able to give lots of one on one attention to them and to go more quickly through basic music theory and into newer information.  By the end of the week we had them singing along with music and the words do-re-mi or Haleluya. They were excited to actually follow music and hear the harmony!

Emily teaching everyone to sing from their diaphragm (you can see their hands on their stomachs).

IMG_7855    Although these guitar players are skilled in their own way, this is one of the first time they’ve ever played by following music/chords.

IMG_7870 Jenna had the bass guitars all taped up with note names.

As teachers we were stretched and encouraged.  Trying to teach the varying levels of musicians who cannot find the note G on the keyboard or who are already playing hymns by ear and know all the chords!

IMG_7793 This pictures greatly shows the faces we would see each afternoon as the students began to feel like they had “information overload” in theory classes.

But We are praising God for the great discussions we had about how to make their services less distracting and more worshipful.  How to teach others who will be leading services and how to make sure you practice what you have learned so that next year we can teach you more.

My heart was filled with joy as they lead the last four services, putting into practice many things they had learned.  One evening the worship team was a combined force from 7 different churches. How far we’ve come in unity and worship since the days when each choir had to try and out-do the other choir and wouldn’t consider joining along with them in leading.  Praise the Lord for all the work He is doing in the musicians. Praise the Lord for all the work He did through our teachers.
