Time for a rest after the busy conference.
I am thankful for a few days to spend on the island of Zanzibar with my mom and dad before they returned to the US. They worked hard preparing for and teaching the Pastor’s conference. And I don’t know about you, but time at a beautiful beach is always refreshing.
There many things to do on this historic island. We toured a spice plantation where we sampled many of the fruits and roots and spices that were ripe.
We toured the old city of Stonetown where explorers, such as David Livingstone, would come and buy supplies for trips into the mainland. The town is full of narrow streets and cool doors.
It also has some great shopping for souvenirs. This Masai man sold Dad a lion’s tooth necklace that he’d been wearing.
It is also the home of a huge Arab slave trade market. Now there is a beautiful church on top of the former market site.
Of course being on the ocean, one must try the variety of seafood. Every night local venders set up tables full of seafood in a local park – delicious!![]()
We went snorkeling and saw hundreds of colorful and unique fish. God is an amazing designer. If only we had an underwater camera for that part of it.
My dad and I ventured to go parasailing with a new company just setting up shop. We were pretty high up with 200-250 meters of rope behind a speed boat. It was a quiet and calm view of the island.
I don’t have to describe in words the beautiful colors of the water.
