Many of the people in the village came from Zambia and in the past they studied elementary school in Zambia. Many of the older ladies don’t know Swahili so I often would greet and then we would just smile and nod at each other, or some one would translate. Most of the Youth now know Swahili so communication is easier.
Each day we begin with Staff meeting and devotions. It is a privilege to teach these counselors the Word of God. We are going through Colossians in our study and they are hungry to learn. Some of the guys that were volunteering in the kitchen would make sure to take a break during Chapel so as not to miss learning from the Word.
My mornings are full as we go from Staff meeting to opening, in which I give a short devotional about Creation, to Game time, in which I often explain the rules of the game and ref, then to tea time and chapel. After chapel the groups are divided into different workshops and I finally get a few minutes to breathe!
This week we had just under 60 kids so things weren’t as busy. It takes a lot less time to get 60 people through meal time as opposed to 200 that we had last week. So I enjoyed time to walk in the fields and rest while the counselors taught their classes. It amazes me to see all the wild flowers that are always out even when it is the peak of the dry season. I also had more time to visit and talk with the campers. Time to talk with older campers about their recent engagements or wedding plans. To encourage them in studying the Word, etc..
Bear with me as I post several fun pictures of the week:
“The Grace Church of Isenga 27 Oct, 2011” A new little church in a new village but they did a great job hosting us.
