No matter where you live, there are traditions that you keep for Christmas. I thought I’d share some of the Christmas prep we’ve had recently.
It actually started in Mbeya with my co-workers for an American Thanksgiving. It was fun to meet missionaries from other organizations and with many countries under their belts. We enjoyed a worship time and some great desserts!
Then I took a mini vacation with my co-workers and their parents in from the US. A great time at Lake Malawi, Matema Beach. I even came back with a sunburn as proof of a good time!
Then I came home and began setting up for Christmas and getting some traditions in. My co-workers and I here made a night of watching “White Christmas” to kick our season off. Steffi helped me make a star for my tree. It has been fun to have a lot more electricity these days which means the tree is lit up more often than it ever used to be!
We had a fun time decorating gingerbread cookies (and had lots of yummy cookie dough.) I made my Grandma’s Rosettes. I even pulled out my Russian doll with the story of Christ and set it up. The tiniest doll has the angel Gabriel who came with so many messages that year.
Amidst all the traditional Christmas prep, there have been many Tanzanians checking out the tree and thinking how beautiful it is. They are surprised that I would prep so early for Christmas (3 weeks out). I’ve also helped my church work on skits for Christmas, so come December 25 I’m excited to see them perform.
I know we have tons of traditions that mean a lot to us. But in the end it’s all about a baby being born!
JOY TO THE WORLD, THE LORD IS COME!!!! Merry Christmas to all!
