September 9-15 was a special week for the Grace churches here in Tanzania. For months they have been planning to gather together for a conference. Choirs had been practicing and making uniforms. Church leaders had been picking the theme and planning who would preach and teach morning classes. The host church was busy building a stage of mud and bricks and temporary bandas to help with bathing. Churches had planned ways to get to the Rukwa Valley. Some were renting lorries and packing in, others walked several hours down the steep grade.
Everything went well. In the end there were well over 500 who attended and that doesn’t include all the local villagers who came to hear and watch each day. The MCs had almost 20 choirs to schedule in each day. I went through lots of 9v batteries in the cordless mics. There were 3 services each day and morning classes. The preachers were enthusiastic and jumped around in the scorching sun. The choirs were exciting and danced and sang well. there was a special service to ordain some of our pastors.
In the end, we are praising God for more than 70 souls who came to the Lord and many more who made commitments to live for the Lord. We like to hear numbers, but in the end it is how God works in each person’s heart. That is immeasurable. We will never know the full extent of how the teaching impacted lives.
