Fetching Water

How much do we take for granted?  Drinking water, availability of items, communication, electricity, etc…
We have so much to be thankful for that we often forget to appreciate all the Lord has given us.  I was reminded last week of that when it came time to “fetch water”.  Since my return to Tanzania, I have been blessed by rainwater which is easy to get by setting a large, 60 gallon, bucket under the gutter.  Then we filter that water and it tastes wonderful.  But the rains are dwindling down and we are out of rain water.
So it will be a regular trek in the car with a few of the men that work for us to a local village pump.  Unfortunately the well that never runs dry is a couple miles away.  There is a spring nearby but the water gets dirty quickly by people and animals so we prefer the water further away.

At the pump, a view from the car.
When we get there, I can park the truck as close as I dare but then there is a incline down to the pump. So after the buckets and jugs are filled they are carried back up to the pickup.  If we combine buckets from the few houses here the truck is full.

This week I was struck by all the beautiful wildflowers that are out right now. It seems we are never lacking some flower or another throughout the year, but at this time there seems to be many.  We also have these cool Mario Brother type mushrooms, which aren’t edible. The locals have ways of telling time by flowers. There are rain flowers that come just after the rains begin, there are these bright yellow flowers that come as the rains end and that is the time of year the bees move around. Then when their petals fall, it’s supposed to be the best time to harvest honey!
