Week 2 of camp this year was in the village of Kazila. We had a shortage
of counselors because of funerals, and illness. Some counselors had to
teach by themselves. Here I am helping Teacher Joffrey prepare to teach a
class on the Gospel by himself because his co-teacher never came.
We praise the Lord that more than 20 campers accepted the Lord this week.
So far the campers from our area are telling their parents that they will
never miss camp again in the future because it's so fun.

Let me introduce you to Given. He is the child of a good friend of mine.
In the past year he has started to hang out with the wrong friends. When his
brother and sister signed up for camp his parents tried to encourage him to
sign up too, but because he's quit going to church and has bad friends he
wouldn't sign up. Finally I told his mom that I would pay the money he
needed for camp if she would pitch in the food. His parents told him that
if he didn't sign up he would embarrass the family by not accepting my gift.
So Given went to camp. He had a lot of fun. He was the fastest runner in
the entire group which was really good for his team when we played capture
the flag (or our version of it). By the last day he was dancing right along
with the kids in his group and singing and acting in the skits.
When he returned home, he told his mom that no matter where camp is next
year and the following years, he will attend. He'll be the first to sign up!
He also said he would talk to the church leaders about starting back to
church. And he said that he wouldn't hang out with his old friend again.
So praise the Lord that he is working in Given's life. Pray for him as he
faces peer pressure and choices ahead.

When there are 70 campers and almost 20 leaders plus the cooks and
deacons. That's a lot of food.

deacons. That's a lot of food.

Here are pictures of the cooks getting the Ugali (like thick grits) ready
for dinner. It's an easy recipe, just water and corn flour. We eat it with
beans and spinach or cabbage. This past week there were 8 women that cooked
for us every day. They did a great job and we never once waited for the
food, it was usually them waiting for us to come and get it because we were
behind schedule. Every week we go to a different village and the local church hosts all the
campers giving them rooms to sleep in, carrying water for drinking and
bathing, firewood, and cooking all the food. At the end of the week they
are excited to have helped out and keep telling us to bring camp back to
their village next year.

Jessica is teaching the girls how they can make a simple cake. They
are excited to learn so that they can use it for special occasions at their
homes. Check out the oven they use though.
