A Trip to the Village

Ministry in Chingo (aka Bondo) in the Mulanje Area

This past weekend we travelled about 5 hours from Lilongwe to southeast Malawi to the village of Chingo, also called Bondo.  It was a ministry trip and our first opportunity to share the new Worship Training curriculum.  We were received warmly and so was our teaching! This is one of the largest churches we work with in Malawi right now, they have about 150 members, including kids.

The area is gorgeous!  Because I was driving most of the time or teaching, I did not get as many pictures as I would have like. It was raining most of the time which made the last 15 minutes of the drive quite muddy and slippery. As we drove from the town of Mulanje (where we slept) to the village each day, we passed multiple tea plantations at the base of the famous mountain range. We saw a crop dusting plane and several tea processing plants. I guess you’ll have to visit Mulanje to experience the beauty yourself!  I just want to share a few of the pictures that I did get to take.

Not every church has such a pretty view through its windows!

the village is set on a hillside so there were many slippery paths to and from homes and the road

a heavy rain caught us as we were walking and we ran to the nearest porch to wait for it to let up

On Sunday they gifted us pineapples and bananas from their gardens!
Their main crops are tea and pineapple with other fruits and corn. Many have seasonal jobs in tea plantations.
