It means, I ask for or I pray for. It is also the name of a game that
we play throughout each day of camp. How else can you decide which of
eight groups of kids goes to lunch or activities or games first? So, as
the boss of camp, I stand as equally in the middle of the circle of kids
as I can and ask for some item. The first team to bring it to me wins.
Sometimes I ask for a pen or a rock or a brick or a belt (as seen in
this picture), or something red, or .... It can get dangerous a bit as
15 kids rush at me. It isn't surprising to be knocked over or stabbed
by a pin from a name tag!
We laugh as the kids come to the gathering point prepared. Some have
already removed shoelaces, searched for items of various colors,
pocketed flowers, or found anything that they've remembered being asked
for in the past. It makes it a challenge to figure out what to ask
for. But camp in Tanzania isn't camp until we've played "Naomba".
